We conducted interviews with eight disabled people who were engaged in roles based on their disability experience. Qualitative inductive analysis was performed. The results showed the following in the process of obtaining roles based on their disability experience: i) their initial negative perception of their own role changed into a positive perception; ii) their initial negative perception of their own disability changed into a positive perception; iii) friction with other people and society changed into positive relationships; iv) there was the expectation of positive support; and v) obstructive factors were the absence of support or no expectation of support.
